Ferris Wheel of Budapest

4.5(28,399)out of 5 on GoogleOpen · until 23:00📍 Belváros & Lipótváros · V

A 65-metre transportable observation wheel standing in Erzsébet tér, in the middle of District V.

It is not a historic attraction and does not pretend to be — it arrived in the 2010s and is a commercial ride. What it does have is position. Most of Budapest's viewpoints are on the Buda hills and look across the river at the city; this one is planted in the centre of Pest, so the view is down onto the street grid, the Basilica dome at close range, and across to the Castle from an angle nothing else gives you.

One rotation takes several turns of the wheel and lasts a few minutes. It is best after dark, which is also when it is busiest and when the queue is longest.

The square underneath it, Erzsébet tér, is a hub in its own right: the main bus interchange for the airport service sits on one side, and the sunken garden and Design Terminal are used constantly in summer.

Worth doing if you like the perspective and are not troubled by heights. Skip it if you have already climbed the Basilica dome, which gives a comparable view for less.
