Soroksár

Budapest's southernmost district and its youngest — Soroksár only separated from Pesterzsébet in 1994. It began as a Swabian farming village, settled by German-speaking colonists in the eighteenth century, and market gardening remained its business well into the twentieth.
What is here
The Ráckeve–Soroksár Danube arm (RSD) and Molnár Island. This is the district's real asset: still, warm water, boat clubs, anglers, and weekend crowds from across southern Budapest. It is where the city swims and rows when it does not want the Danube proper.
The ELTE Botanical Garden at Soroksár, a large research collection open to visitors — quiet, serious and almost entirely free of tour groups.
The Swabian heritage, visible in the village core, the church and a local collection documenting a community largely expelled after 1945.
What it is like
Semi-rural and green, with a waterfront that is genuinely pleasant in summer and not much happening the rest of the year.

Anyone in Budapest for a longer stretch in warm weather who wants water without leaving the city, and gardeners.
The practical catch
It is at the end of the line, in every sense. The H6 suburban railway gets you here but the journey is long, and the waterside is a further walk from the station. Go on a warm day with time to spare, or do not go.
