April is the least predictable month in Budapest. The averages look pleasant and hide the truth: the same week can give you seventeen degrees and blossom, then eight degrees and steady rain. Anyone describing April as reliably good is describing an average, not a trip.
It works, and works well, if you plan indoor things you actually want rather than treating them as a fallback — a museum you were going to see anyway, a bath, an afternoon in a coffee house. It fails if your itinerary is a list of viewpoints.
What it does have, unambiguously, is blossom. Cherry and plum across the City Park and the Buda suburbs, tulips around Vajdahunyad Castle, and the first proper green on Margaret Island. Easter, when it falls here, brings a small market to Vörösmarty tér that is a pleasant relative of the Christmas one.
