June is the good half of summer. Daylight runs past nine, the outdoor pools and the Danube terraces are fully open, the festival season starts, and the afternoons are warm rather than punishing — the average high sits several degrees below July's.
It is the best month for the evening version of the city: a cruise boarding forty minutes before sunset, dinner outdoors afterwards, Castle Hill at eleven with the whole of Pest lit below. Margaret Island and the Buda hills are at their greenest and still comfortable to walk at midday.
Prices are already at summer level and central accommodation needs booking well ahead, particularly with the short-term rental bans having taken supply out of Districts VI and VII.
